Born in New Jersey. While working as a background painter for animation, he drew attention by painting over street advertisements at night. COMPANION, the character with crossed-out eyes he introduced in 1999, won global popularity by reflecting human emotions such as fatigue and sadness beneath its cute exterior. Beyond paintings, sculptures and figures, he is known for collaborations with UNIQLO and Dior.
